Did anyone see the debate between the Democratic candidates that was in SC the other night?

 

It was in Greenville, SC (South Carolina is the next state to hold primaries), and was sponsored by Furman University. It was actually held at the Peace Center in downtown. I think the Dems had something against having it at Furman, because Furman is in Greenville County (not in the city limits), and the county does not celebrate MLK day, only the city....although Furman does. It was kinda dumb, but oh well.

 

Anyway, i know a few College Democrats who helped out with the debate (one who lives on my hall said she got to meet Sharpton at a luncheon). Tom Brokaw spoke at Furman earlier that day.

yeah, i watched the debate and wanted to come on here and tell you to go see it.

 

the debate sucked ass and the candidates basically squandered their last opportunity to take shots at john kerry.

 

al sharpton played the race card magnificently and got the lion's share of applause. i was entertained by his answers to the questions. he even plugged that MLK day injustice you mentioned to the sound of arousing cheers.

 

overall, it was a lackluster debate and i got nothing new out of it.

there were so many empty seats. I was unable to attend. My roommate (in College Republicans) went though.

Edwards mopped the floor with the other 6.

 

But all in all here's how I'd rank their showings in the debate (not how I rank my support)...

 

1- Edwards

2- Kerry

3- Clark

4- Kucinich

5- Liberman

6- Dean

7- Sharpton

 

And by the way Marquette Univ. is going to have a debate when the Wisconsin Primaries roll around Feb. 17

 

I'd think that everyone starts to take pot shots at Kerry by then.

Of course Sharpton played the race card. its the only card in his deck. Al Sharpton is a very smart man, but he needs to realize that the race card didnt work for Jesse Jackson, and it wont work for him either. If he wants racial barriers to be broken, he needs to quit plugging them every chance he gets. Period. Al Sharpton needs to realize that he isnt just a black man beating the system, he's a man trying to make this country better. I think he could do it honestly, but as long as he focuses solely on racial issues, then Hes never getting my vote.

I mean, yes, he needs to broaden his horizons but to say he needs to quit talking about it, which you basically did, is flat-out wrong.

yup... he is a civil rights activist and his only purpose in running is to try to change the democratic party by influencing the party's policies and the policies of the eventual nominee.

 

his primary objective is to put more emphasis on civil rights in the democratic party. he is guaranteed to continue talking about race all the way up to convention.

Sharpton is a racist. He is not fit to run this country. I'm also not sure what civil rights he is out to gain for blacks either.

reparations? If so, I hope not. My ancestors didnt own slaves. They may have fought for the Confederacy, but they sure didn't own slaves. I would be willing to bet that none of the posters on this board have ancestors that owned slaves. Which is beside the point anyway. I didnt own, buy, trade, ship slaves. Why am I paying?
