Ok, for those of you conspiracy theorists wondering why this comes to light NOW as if this isn't entirely on the up and up -- Glenn Straub has been waging legal battles for years regarding the Miami Arena. He was sued because after purchasing the Arena, he supposedly had a deal with a developer to sell the land to him. According to the developer, Scott Silver, Straub had agreed to sell the Arena to him and then started negotiations with the Marlins and MLB. The suit between Straub and SIlver has been resolved and Straub is now able to do with the property what he wishes! Bottom line, Straub has been in contact with MLB and the Marlins for some time and has always been atleast receptive to the idea of a Stadium on his land.
Also, regarding the size of the land and whether a Marlins Stadium can or cannot be built on that land -- in Downtown Miami there wouldn't need to be a parking garage. There is also land adjacent that COULD be acquired if need be...
I am not saying this is going to happen or even likely to happen -- But it would be great to have a contingency plan. Norman Braman has stated that regardless the decision on the Stadium in about 3 weeks, we are in the 4th Inning of a 9 Inning battle. He is looking to postpone and postpone the ground-breaking with appeals to the point where the Marlins won't have the stadium in time for '11. Imagine how great it would be to sit in the new stadium surrounded by the new BEAUTIFUL sky scrapers in Downtown! I can only hope!!!
