Miami board OK's plans for Florida Marlins stadium Architectural and transportation plans for the Florida Marlins future ballpark were approved by Miami's Planning Advisory Board. With limited discussion and a few questions, Miami's city planners moved the Florida Marlins ballpark plan forward Wednesday night, laying the groundwork for city commissioners to adopt the final design. Miami's Planning Advisory Board passed the architectural and transportation plans put together with input from Miami and Miami-Dade administrators, 6-1, with only board member Paul Mann voting against. OPEN SPACE Members did request one condition: That outside the stadium, including four acres of open space that includes the ballpark's Grand Plaza, be available to the public on the days and evenings the team doesn't play home games. The Marlins and city staff said that wouldn't be a problem. Last month, Miami and Miami-Dade commissioners gave approval to the facility's $634 million financing plan. The new ballpark, which is expected to open in April 2012, will seat 37,000, have a retractable roof and 62 suites. But the public received a glimpse into the finer details of the ballpark Wednesday. The park's left center-field area, which faces downtown Miami's skyline, will have a clear surface so fans inside the stadium can see out -- and fans outside can see in. The team hopes to have a water taxi transport service on game days, and the parking garages could be lined with windows and overhangs outside retail developments and apartments. PARKING SPACES There will be space for 5,809 cars, and the stadium's retractable roof -- three pieces that roll to one side to cover the Grand Plaza -- will sky to 269 feet. Planning member Dr. Ernest Martin also requested the outer part of the ballpark be designated as a city park, noting that Miami has ranked at the bottom in park space among major cities. moving right along....good to hear.

Because of the alliteration, The Miami Marlins sounds like a Saturday morning kids cartoon show, i.e. Scooby-Doo, The Hair-Bear Bunch, Grape Ape; Try saying the New York Nankees, or the Boston Bed Sox. Simple majority needed for the stadium agreements (we need 7 of the 13) Super majority needed for "waving of the competitive bidding process" for the infrastructure construction ( 9 of the 13) Major Alvarez is sure we have the 9 votes because now Commissioner Souto is on our side, so he is trying to lump everything together in one vote to get it done swiftly. In my opinion, that may be dangerous, since it is much more important and easier to first pass the stadium agreements (that only need 7 votes), and then worry about the infrastructure vote. wow...you are absolutley right...dangerous little game he is playing. souto can turn out to be another backstabber just like that prick in the city commission.

He surprised the city manager which really pissed him off, but they are still optimistic the stadium will be voted in favor of. the marlins arent ever going to get a stadium. and if they do...it wont be here. and if they do...we wont be around long enough to see it. im going out on a limb here but i think... if the marlins dont get their stadium they will renogotiate with new dolphins owner and extend the lease at dolphin stadium another 8 to 10 years. guys....they have NOWHERE to go. plus, did you know that the marlins franchise is one of the most profitable in all of sports? why would they go anywhere? (i will find the si article where i read those statistics and post it later). alone in tv deals they make a killing. at the end, of the day i think they will get their stadium...but dont buy into this "relocation" sh*t. its just a strategy. if they were really going to relocate they wouldve done it by now. Little Havana will become Nouveau Detroit. The Convention Center counter-proposal is the real pie-in-the-sky. Reality is that the convention business is saturated and beginning to decay. As a resident of Orlando, I can tell you that personally. Miami Ballpark may be a larger initial investment, but its return on investment will be guaranteed with a tenant that will run a minimum of 81 shows a year for the next 35 years. Also, you may have your chance to recoup some of the money when the stimulus bill passes. Something about "shovel ready projects", which this project definitely is. If the stadium passes, then you create hundreds of construction jobs immediately (not an exaggeration?they can begin in June), and sustain hundreds of service jobs for years to come. It also has the opportunity to be the catalyst for the resurrection that Little Havana has longed for. If it fails, then all the money spent by consumers on the Marlins flies to Tampa. And you can forget about a new MLS team. FC Barcelona and Marcelo Claure will see this as the most glaring example of the stereotype that Miami doesn't support its sports teams, and say to Hell with you. Actually, yes. They used a half-cent sales tax increase to build the Alamodome. It was finished in 1993. Its bonds were paid off by 1994. Unlike here in Florida, where we generally get f***ed around with tax and toll schemes (with few exceptions, such as Jax paying off its toll roads with a sales tax option, and Orange County's sales tax option to build schools), the people in San Antonio have a better history with that. Samson stated today in the VIP Season Ticket Holder press conference that this is the FINAL vote for the Stadium... If it fails the Marlins will see other options like relocation They deserve to if it fails. Couldnt agree more, if they vote fails I would leave in 2013... without any questions or answering to anyone Not even. They will be in the AlamoDome in 2011 awaiting a new stadium in San Antonio. san antonio already said they will not fund a stadium...and that was 3 years ago, just imagine today, in this economy.

This article is very worrisome. Joe Martinez is the key vote and he knows it. Hopefully he is only posturing to get attention. He needs to be contacted by as many voters as possible. Everyone in my family has sent their own e-mail. However, even if the vote fails, why can't they go back and negotiate further? I doubt that they will "pick up and go" if the vote does not go in their favor. To much time and effort has been spent to get this close ....to quit now. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the agreement is changed between now and Friday to accommodate a needed vote. yup. but this is just negative propaganda as usual by the herald. i think we will get all the votes needed on friday. there is just too much at stake...plus its like you say, too much time and affort has been spent on this, on all sides. this will happen...we will get our ballpark. still, i encourage people to keep bombarding the commisioners with emails and phone calls in support of the stadium. it may turn out to make a difference at the end.
