I started this thread partly because I was curious about something that I hope someone could help me with.
It's my understanding that minor league players have only one goal and that is to make it to the Major Leagues. They don't care if the team they're on has a winning record or not. They don't care if they win the League Championship. They'd rather be a great player on the worst team in the league than an average player on a championship team.
If a top prospect (any organization's top prospect -- not necessarily Yelich) was fully expected to be called up to the Majors in the coming months, would an organization ask this prospect to work on his weaknesses (at the plate, in the field, wherever) at the expense of everything else? For example, would the Marlins ask Yelich to work on his weaknesses (let's just say at the plate for the sake of this example) at the expense of Yelich's batting stats and with all intentions of calling Yelich up no matter how his personal stats may suffer? And more importantly, would a top prospect trust the organization to call him up even if his offensive numbers went into the tank?
