  1. Can we sell high on you? Trade you to MetsBaseball?

What kind of a return can we expect for him? Maybe throw in Donna as a package deal. Have you scouted their forums for intriguing prospects?

Bearclaw looks tired. Or he just lost his mojo. Or we lost a prime opportunity to sell high.

  2. Nationals are selling

To be fair the Nationals did make a trade today, trading away a bullpen arm.

"Cubs acquired RHP Brandon Kintzler from the Nationals for RHP Jhon Romero.

Kintzler will add a nice piece to the Cubs' setup corps, and he might even see a couple save chances while Brandon Morrow continues to work through a biceps injury. Kintzler, 33, was sporting a 3.59 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and 31/13 K/BB ratio through 42 2/3 innings this season out of the Nationals' bullpen. He carries a $10 million club option for 2019."

  3. "Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Mariners will acquire outfielder Cameron Maybin from the Marlins.

Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times broke the story first, and now it has been confirmed. It wouldn't be a trade deadline day without a deal from Mariners GM Jerry Dipoto, would it? Maybin hasn't put up big numbers in his time in Miami, with a .251/.338/.343 batting line, three homers and 20 RBI in 99 games. He's a quality defender, however, and he should be a slight offensive upgrade over Guillermo Heredia if Seattle chooses to deploy him in center. The Marlins will get a fringe prospect and international money in return."

Called it. What do I win?

  4. Think Cameron Maybin is most likely player gone. No reason to hold on to him, he's the perfect 3rd/4th OF for teams with his + Glove and so-so bat but with some pop. We'll trade him for just about anything in about an hour if no one gets serious.

  5. ie 3b - Brian Anderson is pretty much a lock for ~3 WAR every year that's not a position fish need help at

Brian Anderson improved his defense a lot from last year when it comes to 3B. He should be getting all the at bats there and Dietrich or Prado could spell him if needed for rest days or platoon, whatever. Mainly Dietrich. But so far this season Anderson has started 72 games at RF and 38 at 3B. We should be developing these guys and giving them as much time as possible. Prado shouldn't have gotten more than 100 AB's this season. Sad that he'll be making 15M next year and along with Chen making 20M, they'll be making approximately half of our entire payroll...

Teams are just waiting till the last minute to get Ziegler or Castro from us since they know we want to shed their salaries. They're playing chicken with us, see who blinks first.

  6. I saw it two weeks ago.  Like others said, the movie otherwise unconnected to Infinity War aside from the end credits scene.

They do parallel each other, though, and the end scene explains where they are in the timeline of the broader MCU.

There is a second scene after all the credits too, but....meh is how I'd describe it.  You could skip it and be fine/not miss anything if you don't want to wait.

Hopefully that gives some insight without giving it away.

Thanks. I watched it a week ago. One of my friends I went with got tired of waiting for the 2nd scene after the end credits and looked it up on his phone and was like "dude, let's go. It's stupid" and I was like "don't you dare!" and I shook my finger at him very threatening like. And then when I saw it... yeah wow. haha. Waiting 5 minutes to see an Ant playing the drums. Sigh. I gotta say though... *SPOILER* I can't believe Ant-Man was left inside meanwhile all 3 of Wasp, Pym and his wife were all disintegrated... one of them couldn't remain? How the eff does he get out now. Anyway. Really looking forward to Captain Marvel

  7. Redsox dont have a very good system in my opinion. To say its their top two prospects its like says we are getting the top two from the Giants system which is something everyone here hated to get during the offseason.

Exactly. I wouldn't mind getting Chavis because we've needed an answer for 3B since Mike Lowell left but he's a little old to be in High A/AA still and he's not exactly killing it, but showing some nice power. Groome has been a top prospect for a couple years now but the guy had tommy john surgery and is out for all of 2018 and maybe part of 2019. You never know with that. Sometimes they come back better and stronger, sometimes they can't recover and are never the same anymore.

  8. I'm surprised a player like Castro doesn't generate more interest. He has a 1.5 WAR, he's very solid and in his prime at 28. Fangraphs calculates his value as a FA at 12-13M per year, and he's making 10M with another year of control at 11. Solid pop for a middle infielder.

Glad to see that Ziegler has lots of interest, thankfully he's been much better recently to rehab his value. Hopefully get a couple lottery ticket prospects.

Dietrich on the other hand should've been getting 400-500 at bats a season since 2015. Glad Marlins finally saw the light that he's pretty damn solid. Instead we made the masterful move of trading for Martin Prado (the trade actually was fine). That 3year/40M extension after his first year with us was just so so bad. Now we're paying 13.5M for a .580 OPS and need to pay him 15M next year. But hey, he's a leader! Leadership! Intangibles man. Pay that man 15M for intangibles.

  9. At this pace if he stays healthy, he could come close to putting up a 7 WAR season.

When Buster Posey put up a 7.3 WAR season in 2012 he won the NL MVP.

Realmuto currently has a 3.5 WAR, a full win above the next guy at 2.5. And you guessed it, it's Buster Posey. JT is very valuable and still at his prime. You don't trade that guy unless you get a serious haul.

  10. Nah, I'm fully caught up. I've watched everything. I'll probably go sometime this week, was just curious. I have m o v i e pass and buy regular tickets for movies like Ant Man and Black Panther but I go on Wednesdays like two weeks after the opening so I just walk into pretty much empty IMAX theaters and it's great.

  11. Anyone watch Ant-Man and Wasp yet? Curious to know if it connects at all to Infinity War.

Supposedly it's not connected, but the ending has a 10-15 second clip that ties it in that's supposed to be 'crazy'. I'm scared to look it up on the internetz and read a huge spoiler that will ruin the movie for me so just looking for a 'nah it doesn't relate to Infinity War at all' or 'yea it's great, hold on to your butt'

  12. He's going to be a free agent, this was about signing him in the off-season -- not trading for him.

I have a hard time believing that the team that trades for him won't lock him up immediately or have some type of agreement in place considering the assets it'll take to land him from the Orioles.

In regards to Realmuto extention, I'm on board with that big time.

    https://www.mlb.com/marlins/news/jt-realmuto-is-baseballs-most-athletic-catcher/c-238865506

    https://www.mlb.com/marlins/video/statcast-realmuto-nabs-rosario/c-2075871183?tid=240568594

On top of the fact that he's the fastest catcher in baseball, he currently has the highest avg at .316, the 2nd highest OPS at .913 and highest WAR at 1.7 among all catchers. And in that video of him throwing out Rosario, he posted the fastest pop time (time from catcher's mitt to 2nd base) since 2015 which was when statcast started recording that data and he's consistently tops in the league in that category. He also has the 2 top pop times to 3rd base ever recorded. Having a .900 OPS catcher, that's also the fastest  on the bases and has the best pop time/throwing speed? He's probably the most underrated player in the league by fans and media. I don't expect JT to stay a .900 OPS hitter all season but he's entering his prime and his growth has been steady and consistent. Since 2014 his OPS has been .611, .696, .771, and last year .783. I can easily see him being a .850+ OPS hitter this year and the next 2-3. That combo is so hard to find. Only problem for JT is that he's not a UFA until 2021 when he's 30. But players get paid big bucks in 2nd and 3rd year of arbitration nowadays. You can control him that year but it doesn't necessarily mean it's a bargain. Many players are making 10-15M+ 3rd year arb. Josh Donaldson just got 23M... Marlins will have to decide to commit to him soon for the next 5 years or trade him when he gets some exposure. If he keeps this up and doesn't make the all-star team it'll be a sham. But given how people love to hate the Marlins and we get no nationally televised games or media exposure (understandable of course) it might happen that he goes generally unnoticed by the masses once again. Only positive is that we can use that and his lower overall perceived market value to strike a deal.

  13. We're trying to rebuild our minor league system. The players it would take to land Machado would just set us back right back to where we were. It would probably take JT Realmuto plus 2-3 of our better prospects. I like the idea because yea, he's from Hialeah. Yea he's 3 years younger than Stanton at 25 instead of 28. And he's sick defensively at a more important and difficult position to play. When you consider defense and offense Machado really is one of the best in the game. But it's not the time for something like that. Maybe in like two years we can sign someone like that to be the face of our franchise, but preferably through FA and not a trade. Just wipes out so many assets in the process. Would much rather we spend all that money on intl free agents and drafts etc

  14. These news outlets run these stories to get clicks and views because people love drama and hating on Jeter and the Marlins. The family is on the defensive because they're being sued by the families of the two other people that died and they want a slice of what Jose made during his time as a baseball player. Marlins have no obligation to do anything for Jose. Loria made those promises. Loria is gone. Jeter has no emotional attachment to Jose so he's not going to do anything out of empathy or guilt or friendship like Loria might've. And the lawyers comments at the end of the article are the most laughable of all. Why would anyone want to plant evidence to make Jose look bad at the time of the accident, what an absurd conspiracy with zero rationale backing it. Grasping at straws and trying to pull the ole' 'Hey look over there' and ramp up pressure on Marlins. Wouldn't be surprised if they're trying to get a payout from Jeter to shut up about all of this. All very sad.

  15. I think some of us might have moved on or just figured Realmuto would be sticking around but...

"MLB.com's Jane Lee reports that the Athletics have been in talks to sign Jonathan Lucroy or trade for Matt Wieters. Lee's sources expect the A's to land one of the two catchers. Lucroy's market has been stagnant this offseason after he batted a disappointing .265/.345/.371 with six home runs last year for the Rangers and Rockies, but he makes sense as a rebound candidate for an Oakland team without a settled catching situation. The Nationals have been rumored to be looking at catching options outside the organization, so it's not a surprise they're shopping Wieters."

Just saying... If the Nationals get serious and can get something they find respectable for Wieters could be easier for them parting with an additional player or upping the ante in a trade for J.T. Only issue is I'm not sure what they could possibly get for Wieters...

  16. No depth to deal with injuries what so ever on big league roster or top prospects waiting in the wings to help to the eventual injuries that will come to Stanton or Bour at one point or another during the season. Sorry but Ichiro, Prado, Riddle don't really scream world series contender. And that's part that's supposed to be good. The bad part was our starting pitching and lacking a legit closer.

  17. Exactly. We should be happy that we've changed our thinking and want to be players in the IFA market and will draft players regardless if they want an extra 1MM signing bonus or not given their slot, etc. That's the most important aspect. We won't be doing teardowns every offseason and it's not guarantee that if we had the same amount of money the Rangers had available, that'd he'd choose us. A bird in the hand is better than 2 in the bush. Jeter traded away IFA money to get better players. He made the moves that had to be done and were going to be done and didn't worry about the 'maybes' when he had more important decisions to make.

Also, the Rangers gave away a young prospect for 250K to increase the offer for Martinez and they did the same with their previous trade for 250K. This is who they gave away for 250K with the Royals - "Pena, 19, has played in the Rangers’ system for the past three years. He first came stateside last year and has yet to pitch beyond the Rookie level. In thirty total frames in 2017, Pena pitched to a 2.70 ERA with 10.8 K/9 and 2.4 BB/9." Hardly a painless exercise for them. Time will tell if it was worth it for them.
