Well, I was thinking more along the lines of giving Tagg a shot would solidify other peoples roles. You can have Gonzo think strictly about the OF. You can have Cantu worry only about third base. Send McPherson to Triple-A for a little refining. Now you have a true backup first baseman and not some makeshift guys there out of position, which also allows those guys to worry about their more true positions. And maybe Jacobs doesn't need a platoon partner, but giving Tagg a shot to show something can't hurt. He's showing he's got the skills. Maybe he turns around and knocks Jacobs out of the order. He was, afterall, considered a top prospect in the game, and as we can see, for good reason.
I agree. I followe dhim somewhat when I lived onthe west coast. He should have made the Padres then. He had better numbers than one of Boras's other guys who had a much bigger contract at that time. The kid can play serious ball. Hope we give an opportunity. And yes, it would be nice to have a solid back up at first and have a real power in the line up.
