Wes Helms = Nu Metal veteran, prolly rocks his white '99 oakleys and Jincos on off days, with spiked half bleached lettuce, and some siq Reed Johnson-like chin salad in the offseason.

Bonifacio to bat leadoff all the time
I would have to agree here...K's are only cool when they come with power and OBP. Pretty much every guy on that list can either mash, walk, or do both..including Ronnie Paulino whose career splits against lefties are amazing. It's barely even serviceable to just walk in the big leagues anymore, just ask Reggie Willits. Although I am attempting to be objective about Bonifacio's position, it is inevitable that he will swing/miss and slap-hit himself back to he bottom of the order...and that's a best case scenario really. The idea and vision of Bonifacio as a guy who is fast and can steal bases, who just MIGHT get on base at a .350 clip is much greater than what the statistics have continually shown of him. He's a defensive asset, and a defensive asset only. The longer he leads off = the longer the Marlins make a decisive choice NOT too score as many runs as they are capable of scoring. It sucks, but waiting out results usually means you're going to lose. I would much rather find out he can get on base all of a sudden with him hitting 8th, not hurting the ball club, all the while preventing runs with his glove. Unfortunately, this is not the case...

New guy - find the thread called "Some Emilio ramblings" or something like that, started by "Nny". He did a statistical analysis of Bonifacio that'll make you dizzy. It should be just a couple of pages back. Awesome man, thanks. Will check it out for sure

Bonifacio to bat leadoff all the time
I would read this as being substantively incorrect [not the poster, the website linked to] - a) Maybin will bat 2nd much of the time and b) it's predicated on Bonifacio leading off (and Maybin eighth) 162 times when Fredi is only offering maybe 40 at bats to Bonifacio before reviewing the situation. I would say c) if Bonifacio has an OBP of .265 (where did that number come from anyways?) he'll be eating creole cooking not stone crabs. Agreed...just an interesting observation with the link. My point was to try and quantify the worst of the situation I suppose...which is obviously less than 1/4 of a win by even the most generous amount of plate appearances they're willing to give Emilio. .265 was an exaggerated random number, and probably as bad as it gets even if his defense is unmatched by anybody else on the club. However, it's really tough to expect him to ever produce even the most average of offensive numbers when he has a pretty sh*tty K:BB ratio in the bus leagues, without any real power to speak of. I might be wrong, but in the big leagues it seems that those Minor League numbers often translate into Alfredo Amezaga at best. I compared the two on baseball cube here, just for fun, and they are fairly similar in their minor league numbers barring a slightly higher k rate on Emilio's behalf (also taking into account Emilio had more chances at it), and Amezaga having a bit more patience and pop. I guess it's all just splitting hairs anyway until we have access to the results and can maybe see the motive behind Fredi's decision. It's always fun to discuss, however. Thanks for going easy on me, ha, I'm new to this -Nick

Bonifacio to bat leadoff all the time
Don't know if any of you guys saw this, but by the MARCEL projections this move should cost them about 1 win over the course of the season, and/or .06 runs/game. (assuming it would be Cameron Maybin leading off in Boni's place). That's kind of a lot in a tight division, however, you've gotta think that if Emilio has an OBP of .265 at the beginning of May, Fredi is going to reevaluate things a bit...be it by his own discretion or the strong arm of the front office.
