  1. Sorry you do not agree,,, and Marlins fans wonder why everyone likes the Yankees, Mets or Phillies Its because nobody cares. You all are okay with it. If this was done in a real sports town, there would be outrage. But none of you are even mad. Have fun with Carnival stadium. Boot me off again for a few daysm I dont care. Im done with this board and the people. You guys say you will cheer for the team in tshirts and shorts, but you dont now!
  2. Again, It is not the logo itself. There have been plenty of ugly logos that are endearing and appropriate...(old Buccaneers, Old Spurs with the pink and teal, even the Floridians with the magenta) I wouldnt have cared if it was ugly. It is the fact that is such blatant commercialism that disgusts me. I bet it is Carnival or other tourist related company. The whol purpose this stadium exists is to attract tourists now. From the fishtank to the "Miami" themed logo to even making the team have sucky players so you go to see the team you want to see. That is why I will not cheer for them anymore. Not because of a " logo ".
  3. Im really guessing the jerseys will have Miami on both..... They are marketing Miami,,,,not the Marlins. Same reason why Texas does it. Makes a nice souvenir to take home.
  4. I agree LouisCastillo. Not everyone that lives in Miami goes to South Beath. I just wonder what they ask themselves when they make this logo. What average, working 40 year old man who is a baseball fan would wear that hat. I am 34 and wont. Who are they trying to get to watch the games. Tourists that come to Miami for the Miami experience, Any team that was really concerned about people that like baseball would not do that.
  5. Do you think they care about the fans. The team stayed there because it is more marketable and can make more money from tourist dollars than any other city can make from hometown fans. From Day 1,thats what it has been.
  6. It is soooo sad to me, sports teams do not care about Miami citizens anymore. They have learned the value of the tourism dollar in Miami. It is not just the Marlins. The Dolphins have a "Gator day" Gloria Estefan singing and market everything a party, a fiesta. I have never seen a more blatant attempt at drawing in tourist fans. It looks like a t-shirt you would buy at an amusement park for a reason. The stadium is one.
  7. It is just the corporateness of it. I am in advertising, and the first things you learn is that colors have mental subliminal messages. Why do think all fast food restaurants are red and yellow. It makes us hungry. The more I think about it, the madder I become. It does look like an amusement park, an insurance company logo, a transit line,,,,, it is there for one reason, to make us spend more money at the damn stadium. That is it. It is set up for tourists that want the "Miami" experience. This whole stadium is set up so people who like the Mets, Phillies and Cubs have a nice place to go to watch a game, and bring home cool Miami souvenirs that remind them of the city. It is not just a logo.
  8. Its more than a logo. Just like a flag is more than just a logo for a country. Its what identifies you. Its what represents you. Judge me all you want, But blind allegiance is not being a good fan. Im not going to cheer for any other team, I just hate what this has become. Nobody cares about baseball anymore
  9. Like I said, its not the logo in this case. Its what it represents. This ownership cares only about making money. I love buying merchandise for my teams. I will not buy this. Again, its not ugly, its a shill for the stadium. I bet Loria sells the team in 5 years when the shine of the stadium does not provide attendance anymore.
  10. I wished they would have moved to San Antonio. At least 50 years from now I could look back fondly at the good times. Now the whole thing is a big joke. It looks like the logo for Marlin Airlines or a club or something.
  11. If this is it, and I really believe that it is, I am done with the Marlins. Its not that is entirely ugly or doesnt flow, or anything like that. Its just that it is so corporate. It is really just an advertisement for the stadium. The matching colors, the space needle marlin, it has just gotten to be too much with this team. I hate to say it, but I have been with this team from the beginning, and I can not do it anymore. From the fire sales, to the lies, to the hostage over the stadium, it is too much. Now, we get this logo, just another big moneymaking advertisement. I know some will say that it is just a logo and a uniform, but it is more than that. It is who and what they are as a team, what they stand for and what they want people to know about them. I would have been okay with ugly, unaestetic, but not a corporate advertisement.
  12. I think the thing that is upsetting me the most about the homerun celebration and theuniforms that have been speculated is the efforst to capitalize on the "Miami culture". I lived and grew up in Miami, and I definately feel that they should be called the Miami Marlins. But, not every person in Miami wears orange, collects art and goes to south beach every day. The ownership is marketing the team as a tourism draw, because they are tourists. People from other parts of the country think of Miami, and think Miami Vice, South beach and crossdressers at the Birdcage. While that may be a big part of Miami, it is not representative of every person. Its blatant marketing by the ownership. A baseball team should be subtle in its represenation of a city. For example, the team name.... Marlins is a team name only Miami should use, not Chicago or Boston. The colors are also a big part. I think Miami needs to be bright vibrant colors, but still not so flowery and weird that it the colors forget that they are representing a team of athletes. Hmm, I bet teal and black would work.......I think this whole thing, the stadium, the colors, the weird logo, is all marketing to get tourists to Miami. I have been a fan since day 1. I have seen the Marlins play in 11 different cities, I have been through good and bad, but if what they say is true, they will lose me.
  13. Im hoping for a fish and an M on the hat. I loved that the Marlins were the only team to have that kind of logo.
  14. I like the name Miami because the state name only works in certain situations IMO....for instance, Arizona, there is only one large metro center worthy of a team, same for Colorado Rockies.. Miami does have its own identity. When I meet someone from Arizona, they are always from the Phoenix area. Im guessing orange and royal blue and black... yay.. go mets!
