August 3, 200421 yr 08/03/2004 12:36 PM ET Marlins Community Foundation to hold inaugural bowling tournament on Aug. 21 MIAMI -- The Florida Marlins Community Foundation will hold its inaugural bowling tournament on Saturday, August 21 at Don Carter University Lanes. Fans are invited to sign up for the tournament, where they can bowl, win prizes and then watch the Marlins play in San Diego against the Padres. Registration for the event will take place at 7:30 p.m. The tournament will begin at 8:00 p.m. followed by the Marlins-Padres game at 10:05 p.m. on Fox Sports Net. Fans are invited to watch the game in Don Carter's Sports Bar and Grille - Skittles. The tournament will include two games: the first features regular bowling, while the second game, "Lightning Strikes," includes a state of the art light, sound and music show, with special effects, video, lights, lasers, fog and music. There will also be a silent auction and raffle at the event. The evening costs $25 per person, which includes two games of bowling, bowling shoes, a slice of pizza, a soft drink, a t-shirt, a goody bag and a raffle ticket. The top bowler will receive a customized Florida Marlins bowling ball and bag, other prizes will also be offered. Don Carter University Lanes is located at 5325 S. University Drive in Davie, FL 33328, just south of I-595 and Griffin Road. Their phone number is 954.434.9663. The net proceeds will benefit the Foundation's Cornerstones for Kids programs, building a brighter future through education, the arts and baseball. Don Carter University Lanes sponsors Clubhouse Kids, a trivia session for kids, 52" and shorter, at all Sunday home games and donates bowling certificates to the Florida Marlins Community Foundation for many charity events.
