The Office

has anyone seen this show?? i just recently got the first season dvd and i cant stop watching it. it airs on BBC America, but i dont get it. its not gag-funny or gross out funny as most American comedies are, but smarter type of humor. the more i watch the dvds, the more i things i catch that i didnt notice during my first viewing. plus sometimes its hard to understand some of the references that they use.

but really...hilarious. too funny.

I downloaded and watched all of the 1st season last year, and have the 2nd season sitting on my hard drive now. It's very funny. The David Brent character is hilarious. Satire, baby...yeah!

The closest thing on American TV is probably Curb Your Enthusiasm. Both have a lot of uncomfortable humor, where you're kind of embarrased for the characters while at the same time noting the hilarity.

I heard they were making an American remake of the show to air this year, starring Steve Carell of The Daily Show. I don't know what happened to that, but its probably a bad idea anyway.

David Brent is great as the boss who thinks hes a comedian. all his jokes fall flat, and he seems to be the only one laughing and smiling at them. he also tends to be very oblivious to everything that is going on, but comes off as all knowing. good example is when hes introducing Ricky the temp to everyone in the office and they come across the Indian fella:

Brent- "Oh this guy does the best Ali G impression!! Aiiiiiiiiiight!!"

Guy- "No, i dont know what youre talking about"

Brent- "Of course you do, come on...oh, no wait. Yeah, its the other one."

Guy- "The other what?"

Brent- "Huh?"

Guy- "The other Paki??"

Brent- "Hmmmmmm....thats racist." and then walks away.

i did read something about them making an American version of it. plus, Ricky Gervais (David Brent) was speaking of it a couple of months ago on Leno i think. they probably would kill the whole feel of the show if it were remade.
