Wilson: Finally back in the lineup

Josh Wilson is a shortstop in the Florida Marlins organization. Selected in the third round of the 1999 draft, the Pittsburgh native spent the 2004 season with the Double-A Carolina Mudcats and Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes. The 23-year-old hit .315 with a .396 OBP and .486 SLG in 81 games with Carolina, then hit .279/.337/.408 in 56 games for the Isotopes. He's a member of the Phoenix Desert Dogs this AFL season.

It was another great week here in Arizona. The Desert Dogs are still in first place and I am finally healthy enough to play. I got one game in last week and it went pretty well. Although we lost to the Scottsdale Scorpions, it was very good to be back on the field. I was only 1-for-5, but overall I felt pretty good at the plate and was mostly just happy to be swinging without pain.

This coming week should be a lot of fun. I'll actually get a decent number of at-bats and with a few wins, I think we will clinch a spot in the championship game.

Off the field, the week went pretty good. My roommate Mike and I were glued to the TV on Tuesday, as I'm sure most of you were, with the election. We were both a little tired Wednesday after staying up most of the night trying to figure out who would win. Thankfully, we had a night game Thursday which helped us catch up on some sleep. And Sunday was the topper for the week -- another Steelers win. This week it was over the Philadelphia Eagles -- a huge 27-3 win. A couple of my friends in Philly will be sure to hear about it this week from me.

Later on this week, I will be getting a visit from my Dad and uncle, both of whom could use a little vacation. I'm sure the Scottsdale area will provide plenty of relaxation, and of course, they will enjoy the baseball games.
