Magglio makes it official

Magglio Ordonez has reportedly agreed to become a Tiger.

New York Newsday reported on its Web site Saturday that the 31-year-old right fielder agreed to a five-year, $75 million million deal with Detroit. An announcement is expected Monday.

The Tigers can reportedly void the deal at any time if Ordonez's osteochondritis occurs. Ordonez had two surgeries on his left knee last season because of the condition.

Ordonez, hit .292 for the Chicago White Sox last season with nine homers and 37 RBI in 202 at-bats. He missed 36 games after injuring his left knee May 19, then went on the disabled list for good on July 22 with bone marrow edema.

There are also reportedly incentives in the contract that could make it a seven-year deal. The length was too much for the Mets, Rangers and Cubs, who were also interested in Ordonez.

The four-time All-Star made his debut in 1997 with the White Sox, who signed him as an amateur free agent in 1991. He has a .307 career average with 187 homers.
