August 6, 200323 yr NBA Notes Cuban denies report about trade with Miami Staff and Wire Reports Mark Cuban denied a report in a South Florida newspaper that the Mavericks nearly completed a trade for Miami Heat power forward Brian Grant last week. According to the Sun-Sentinel, Mavs president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson thought he had a deal to acquire Grant for three players. The players were believed to be forward Eduardo Najera, guard Avery Johnson and free-agent forward Walt Williams. "None of it's true," Cuban said Tuesday. The article, quoting an NBA source, added that Heat president Pat Riley would agree to trade Grant for Mavericks guard Nick Van Exel. Cuban denied that such a deal is on the table. The two teams nearly agreed on a deal that included Grant and Van Exel last season, but the Mavs ultimately balked at taking on Grant's contract. The 31-year-old has four seasons left on his deal at approximately $50 million.
