That is the day 'Save Our Seahawks' was born. The SOS organization has been called "the single most effective grass roots campaign in the history of franchise upheaval." Founded by Mark Collins, the fan group grew to over 2,000 members who did everything possible to make sure the Seattle Seahawks would not become the Anaheim Seahawks. On this 10th anniversary, there will be a rally at 5pm at FX McRory's to celebrate our Seattle Seahawks and the fans who kept our team in town. A brief news conference will begin the rally. It will include a special announcement, this time it will be news fans will cheer. Event: Save'd Our Seahawks Celebration to honor our Super Bowl Seahawks & our fans! Where: FX McRory's - 419 Occidental Ave S. (across from Qwest Field) When: 5pm, Thursday - February 2nd Who: Fans & media are invited (FX McRory's is ADA accessible) ?12th Man fever? gripped the Pacific Northwest this season, helping send the Seahawks to the Super Bowl," says Mike Flood, Seahawks VP of Community Relations. "This community enthusiasm should remind us that back in 1995/96 a small band of Seahawks fans rose up to keep the Seahawks from leaving the Northwest. The first fans to publicly fight to keep the team from moving to California were part of a group called ?Save Our Seahawks.? "Mark Collins really led the SOS charge and continued working throughout the successful stadium campaign, ensuring that all of us could enjoy Seahawks football. We salute Mark and all the ?Save Our Seahawks? members for their role in saving NFL football for Seattle and the Northwest!" Please attend this salute to our team and to our fans! Thank you for passing on the word. In Seahawks pride, here is a link to the webpage detailing some more of the history http://latigolace.com/save-our-seahwks.htm too me it shows that grassroots support can definitely help keep a team in town, but everyone else involved has to be creative as well
