The Latest On Samoa Joe's Backstage TNA Status, & More

Report by TNA Wrestling News Staff on 05/20/2006 at 07:22 PM

Wade Keller of the Pro Wrestling Torch is reporting that Samoa Joe is universally admired and well liked among wrestlers on the TNA roster.

Jeff Jarrett, Scott Steiner and Sting are all very impressed with Joe and were said to have been trying to find ways to get him over as the star of the match at Sacrifice this past Sunday. It is being said that Joe scored some major brownie points by willingly and convincingly selling for Jarrett and Steiner.

One TNA wrestler had the following to say about the situation: "People keep saying Jeff and Steiner got Joe over. I see it the other way around. I think a lot of our fans think Jarrett and Steiner gained credibility by hanging with Joe in the ring like they did."

Major Backstage Update On Samoa Joe's Injury

Report by TNA Wrestling News Staff on 05/19/2006 at 12:39 PM

TNA X Division Champion Samoa Joe will be undergoing physical therapy for at least the next three months on his knee and has already started the process with famous sports therapist Tommy Chao in California.

Joe, who has been able to put some weight back on his leg after it locked up at the TNA iMPACT! tapings this past Monday night in Orlando, is expected to take time off from his independent and international bookings in order to rest his knee, but isn't expected to miss any ring time with TNA. Adz sent us word that 1PW has already confirmed Joe pulling out of the 1PW Know Your Enemy event next weekend.

In getting into details about Joe's injury, the major injury was to Joe's posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), which suffered a very serious tear. For those unaware, the PCL prevents the tibia (shinbone) from sliding too far backwards in order to protect the knee from bending in the wrong direction. The tear caused Joe's knee to buckle, which resulted in some severe swelling and pain. If everything goes well with physical therapy, Joe could avoid surgery at this time if healing of the ligament tears goes well. Although, some feel Joe will still have to get surgery down the line.

As reported earlier on TNAWrestlingNews.com, Joe suffered the injury many weeks ago while working for Ring of Honor in Cleveland, OH. Since the injury took place, Joe had been resting his knee to insure that he could still put on the usual fast paced performance at the TNA Sacrifice PPV this past Sunday when he teamed with Sting against Jeff Jarrett and Scott Steiner. Joe's apppearances for Ring of Honor were set up around protecting his knee. However, after five straight nights of working on it, it finally gave away during a match against David Young taped for Xplosion.
