Four GOP Senators Not Seeking Re-Election Already

Featured Replies

The 111th Congress just started their session last week, and already four Republican Senators are either retiring or have decided not to seek re-election in 2010.

So far, they include:

-Sen. Mel Martinez (FL)

-Sen. George Voinovich (OH)

-Sen. Kit Bond (MO)

-Sen. Sam Brownback (KS) -Running for Governor-

Plus, you have Sen. David Vitter (R-LA) running for re-election, despite the fact that he will be very vulnerable after his scandal involving A LOT of prostitution from 2007.

On the Dem side, the most vulnerable incumbent (since it now looks like he will be seated) should be Roland Burris (IL).

Democratic controlled congress and senate for about 6 years probably. Then we will see a huge change of two elections after the 6 years.

We'll see. It's certainly possible, but it's also possible that the Democrats could stay in control of Congress for decades like they did after WWII. From the early 50s to 1994, Democrats controlled at least one house of Congress. Unfortunately by then there was too much corruption among Democrats, and it allowed for the 1994 landslide to occur. Then it only took 12 years for the GOP to wear out their welcome and become the victim of the first two straight landslide election since the 1930s. Now, it looks like it is going to be three elections in a row.
