November 30, 200322 yr I think the fish are giving Castillo a pre deadline ultimatum.? They are pressuring him to sign or they're going to make a move.? The other teams going after him are more or less copying the Marlins offer.? So, ...why the game?? Probably trying to squeeze as much as possible out of this situation.? Who could blame them?? But, if I read this situation correctly, Castillo's agents are close to shutting the door on the fish, only to eventually wind up signing the same deal with someone else, just to keep the options open.? I doubt if that's what Luis wants, and I suspect that's what he's pondering on his DR trip.? He wants to sign and his agents are telling him to wait, and the Marlins are saying if you wait much longer we'll have to pull the trigger on another deal, probably involving some other key players. i really like your interpretation... it sounds right. i'm guessing the marlins can only afford to sign 2 out of the 3: pudge, castillo, lowell. if they can't get castillo's & lowell's deals done before early december, they'll have to negotiate with pudge because of his looming contract deadline. i'm guessing they would rather have castillo than pudge (i don't blame them). if castillo refuses to sign, they can't comfortably sit back and lowball pudge. this decision is a tough one for me.

Remember we have a catcher rdy to take over, but no 2B. I'm torn on which way to go, at this point I don't know if I rather have Pudge or Castillo.
