Early Returns From The ABS System

MLB 2026: Best, worst automated balls-and-strikes challenges

Why didn't the writer tell us how many strike calls were changed to balls and how many ball calls were changed to strikes? I'm very curious to know. I remember last season alot more balls were wrongly called strikes than vice-versa, so it's probably like that so far this season and the ABS will probably help batters more than pitchers.

This story validates my analysis: Yankees go 5-for-5 on ABS challenges in loss to Mariners

At least 4 of the reviewed pitches were strike calls changed to balls. The article doesn't mention the 5th reviewed pitch.

I guess eventually the umpires will adjust their strike zone accordingly. It'll be interesting to see how the ABS system effects the balance of power. Right now it's a pitchers league. I guess it always is a pitcher's league, but it's been more so than usual in recent years.

Is it possible that the umpires will be so embarrassed by so many overturned calls that they'll go on strike over it?🤣
