Where best to start than the United States of America! Becoming the first American dictator outside the likes of Lincoln, FDR, and George W. Bush takes just five easy steps. I warn you, it will cost some money, so once you are finished reading I highly suggest you get to work and steal some good ideas and sell them. Step 1: Give kick backs to the electoral college delegates Pay off just enough delegates to secure the necessary majority to win the election. Sure, you did not get any popular votes, but all it takes is a little intimidation, money, and media control and you can do it! 2. Discover a "plot" against your life and use it as an excuse to purge all military officers Arrest and then execute all military officers in the US military for treason, and then put friendly commanders/puppets into place. 3. Dissolve Supreme Court, House, Senate, and all state governments Use your new found military prowess to erradicate all old forms of the US government and put henchmen into power positions. 4. Make it law that the only person who can legally be voted for is you This way your rule is legitimate. 5. Live the life Build gigantic mansions for yourself, buy 40 Porches, get 40 wives, kill a bunch of people annually...you are the man now, you can do it all. If you don't you are not fulfilling your role as a dictator. Sure, you can be a benevolent dictator, but even the "good" ones MUST live the life. So what are YOU waiting for?
