Nor do the Marlins expect it. "We have to keep playing," said center fielder Juan Pierre. "Nobody is going to feel sorry for us. You've got to keep playing hard. "One of the things that makes baseball unique is you can do everything right and still not win." Pierre was snakebitten in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Giants at Pro Player Stadium. With Ramon Castro on first base in the third inning, the Marlins speedy center fielder ripped the ball down the first-base line. But J.T. Snow made a diving stop on the grounder, robbing Pierre of at least a double. Snow stepped on first for the out. "He's golden for a reason," Pierre said of Snow, a frequent Gold Glove winner. The Marlins enter Thursday with uncertainty about Beckett, who has a stiff right elbow that will be examined by orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala. Beckett has an early flight Thursday and expects to be in Miami by game time.
