Marlins' Offseason a "Big Question"
You have to look at it from reality the FO will not have a 70 million dollar payroll so some players will have to be shipped out. Durazo is a FA. So then we simply give up Delgado, Pierre and Lowell for a bag of baseballs and sign two aging injury prone underachieving free-agents? Get out of here...seriously. The Marlins have a ton of deferred money due to Hampton and Pudge Rodriguez coming off the books that coincide with the jump in Delgado's deal. As it is, the Marlins are allowing two veterans (Encarnacion, Burnett) to be replaced with 100% certainty by rookies making the major-league minimum (Hermida and Vargas), and it's likely that Easley and Gonzalez will also be replaced with players who are making less, or perhaps Nomar. Either way, there's a lot of budget balancing that will take care of itself by simply allowing Encarnacion, Burnett and the deferred money come off the books. Not to mention, Leiter got $4 mil this season, he'll be getting $1 mil next season, so that's even more money freed up. Go scavange some other team, vulture. How is the budget going to take care of itself if Loria has lost money each of the past two seasons and im pretty sure he isnt going to let it happen again next year. He lost money last year the year before, and the year before, and he still raised payroll this year. We have higher ticket prices next year to accompany about a 90% renewal rate among season ticket-holders. The income will be there, even if the attendance numbers are not, plus, it's seriously doubtful that Loria is losing as much money as he claims, but that's the case with just about any owner in baseball...these guys made hundreds of millions of dollars making smart investments, I don't think they'd stick around a baseball team that's a money pit just for the hell of it, do you? He raised it in efforts to get a new stadium, but I guess you havent read were he says that they are not close to getting a new stadium deal done.

And I never say to trade Delgado lowell and Jp for nothing, I just said it would be better financially for this team.

You have to look at it from reality the FO will not have a 70 million dollar payroll so some players will have to be shipped out. Delgado - 13.5 mill Lowell - 9 mill Pierre - Can go up to 5.5 mill LoDuca - 6.72 mill Castillo - 5.67 mill Thats equal to 40.39 Now add Beckett - 4 mill Willis - 4 mill a closer 4-6 mill (ill put it as 4) AA - 1 mill? Mota - if still here 3.5 Villone - 2 mill add all the others making the minimum might go past 70 mill. What do you think of trading Delgado and JP with Lowell and having a line up of... 2b- Castillo RF- Hermida 3b- Cabrera 1b- Durazo SS- Nomar C- LoDuca LF- Willingham CF- Aguila or someone aquired in trade? Just speculating dont jump all over me... Look, if the Yankees wanted Pierre so badly that they'd take Lowell and send the Marlins Pavano with some of the money paid making him a $7 mil a season pitcher instead of $10 mil, I could see this possibly happening, but Delgado won't be moved, and what makes you think that the Yankees even want/need Delgado and Lowell? Last I checked, hitting wasn't the problem with the Yankees... Were does it say Delgado Lowell and JP to Yankees explain that to me Well, Yankee fan, considering that you wanted three big names and we received one player who is a free-agent, and Erubiel Durazo (while the A's nave no interest in any of our guys), I'd assume that they'd end up in New York. Since we'd be giving up a boat-load of talent, and receiving nothing in return, it just reeked of a New York cooked up trade... Durazo is a FA.
