Abraham Nunez

Featured Replies

Thirteen of Nunez's 22 hits have been for extra bases. His nine home runs are tops in the Grapefruit League and they are a team spring franchise record, topping the seven struck by Bobby Bonilla in 1997.

A natural right-handed hitter, Nunez had always shown more power from the right side. But this spring, he has gone deep from the left side of the plate, including an opposite-field shot to open Monday's game against the Dodgers in Vero Beach.

Ideally, the Marlins would prefer their younger players to play in the minors rather than sit the bench. Finding playing time will be a concern because Wil Cordero will likely start at corner outfield spots over Nunez.

Were Nunez's homeruns against quality pitchers?

If you were the manager, would you start Cordero over Nunez?

You left out:

On the Marlins he will back up Juan Pierre in center field. He also could be used as a defensive replacement and pinch-runner. He gives some options for double-switches.

That seems more likely than Nunez or Cordero starting. Nunez will also pinch-hit a lot. He and Lenny Harris are our only lefthanded bats coming off the bench.

BTW, the pitchers: 2 off the Expos' Seung Song. Then Jason Isringhausen, Buddy Groom, Matt Riley, Edwin Jackson, Duanier Sanchez (LA), Zach Day and Jeff Weaver the past two weeks.
