April 2, 200422 yr http://www.sportsline.com/mlb/teams/preview/FLA here is a little snipit of text from the site... Scott Miller's Take Let's just see if this summer can go a little more smoothly than the season after the Marlins' last World Series title. Though they lost Pudge Rodriguez and traded Derrek Lee, the prediction here is 2004 will be light years ahead of the Marlins' 1998 season. Strengths Pitching. Josh Beckett still has a chip on his shoulder following his October heroics and wants to pitch 200 innings -- among other things. Brad Penny and Carl Pavano should be better. Dontrelle Willis needs to stay strong all season. Re-signing Mike Lowell was big, and folks in Florida can't wait to see what Miguel Cabrera can do over a full major-league season. Weaknesses In his first full seasons after taking over clubs in mid-campaign the year before, manager Jack McKeon's clubs haven't done as well. Filling Rodriguez's shoes behind the plate is a tall order, and Ramon Castro needs to spread his wings after waiting two seasons for the opportunity. With Armando Benitez as the closer, keep the Tums handy. Difference Maker Juan Pierre. This little guy was the spark plug during the World Series. Batting leadoff, the Marlins offense might go as he goes.
