Fish bytes: Reliever Tim Spooneybarger had a setback recently in his recovery from Tommy John surgery. The right-hander has experienced some stiffness in his elbow and has not been throwing. In a best-case scenario, Spooneybarger, who had his surgery last Sept. 9, would have returned in either August or September. It in unlikely that he will pitch this season. ... Minor league sensation Jeremy Hermida, who has been impressive for Class A Jupiter, was placed on the disabled list retroactive to May 11 with an aggravated right hamstring pull. ... First base coach Perry Hill was back with the team on Tuesday. Hill returned to South Florida on Friday from St. Louis due to a personal family matter. He missed all three games against the Cardinals. ... Legendary NFL coach Don Shula tossed out the ceremonial first pitch on Tuesday. McKeon, a catcher in his playing days, caught the pitch.

I was hoping that Spooney could come back for September (lord knows we need it), but if he needs the full year, I won't complain. Just makes him stronger for next year.
