May 30, 200422 yr 05/29/2004 5:32 PM ET Marlins to host high school media day MIAMI - The Florida Marlins Media Relations and Broadcasting departments will host the Seventh Annual High School Media Day on Tuesday, June 1, before the Marlins play the Cincinnati Reds at 7:05 p.m. at Pro Player Stadium. The Marlins will welcome 70 high school students from Miami-Dade and Broward counties who are interested in the fields of sports journalism, television, radio and still photography. Eight high schools from Miami-Dade and 11 high schools from Broward have students attending the event. The event begins at 2:30 p.m. and features a "Press Briefing" about the Marlins Media Relations and Broadcasting Departments and their game-day responsibilities. The students will also get to take part in a press conference with Marlins Manager Jack McKeon and pitcher Tommy Phelps. A "Meet our Beat" panel is also planned, featuring Miami Herald baseball writer Mike Phillips, Marlins television announcer Len Kasper, Marlins radio announcer Jon "Boog" Sciambi, baseball photographer Tom DiPace and NBC 6 Sports Anchor Joe Rose. After these three sessions, the students will visit the Marlins press box and broadcast booths and then watch batting practice from the field. In the evening, students will attend the game, write game stories and then submit their stories to the Marlins. Some of the top stories will be included in the Florida Marlins Daily Clips the following day. Media interested in covering the event should contact the Florida Marlins Media Relations Department.
