I dunno man, the Pistons winning the Finals was a huge upset, bigger than Marlins over Yankees, but is the Marlins' whole run considered an "upset"?

Pretty much every true basketball fan that actually followed the NBA season all last year knew the Pistons were going to be serious championship contenders along with the Pacers, especially when they got Rasheed Wallace so while they totally dominated the Lakers, it wasn't a big surprise.

A team like the Hawks, Warriors, etc. winning the NBA championship over the Lakers is comparable to the huge upset of the Marlins over the Yankees, but not the Pistons because they were championship contenders to begin with. The Pistons set many NBA records throughout the season such as most consecutive games of holding opponents under 70 points, etc. and they also had that huge winning streak, it really wasn't a surprise that they beat the Lakers, the only big surprise was how badly they beat them and that's it.

The Pistons beating the Lakers in the finals is like the Braves beating the Yankees or something along those lines, yes it's significant, but not more significant than a small market team with one of the lowest payrolls in the league which was just barely trying to survive winning it. Problem is the media portrayed it as a bigger upset which is why they win. Beckett is probably the most likely to win out of all of them I think I agree, the national media caters towards bandwagoners which is why they picked the Pistons/Lakers over the Marlins/Yankees.

i belive Leyland won best coach/manager after the 97 world series.

i think beckett has a chance to win the best championship performance, because all of the hype and second guessing before the game, and then he just went out there and dominated in Yankee stadium.
