August 20, 200421 yr Bucs in Jacksonville (on WDAE) The Buccaneers' second game of the preseason is Friday night with a 7:30 kickoff from Alltell Stadium, as Tampa Bay takes on the Jacksonville Jaguars. All of the action will air on 620 WDAE. Charlie Garner is to make his Buccaneer debut after being one of several players to sit out Monday night's opener, a 20-6 win against Cincinnati at Raymond James Stadium. However don't look for Garner nor any of the other first-string members to be in the game for long. To help take some of the strain off Martin Gramatica during the rest of the preseason, the Buccaneers on Thursday signed kicker Nicholas Setta from Notre Dame. "He might try an extra point or field goal but for the most part he'll be kicking off," head coach Jon Gruden told the Tampa Tribune. In search of more stoutness along the defensive line, the Bucs had tackle Oliver Gibson in for a workout Wednesday, according to the Pewter Report. Gibson is 6-2, 315 and was cut by Buffalo last week. His agent David Levine told the Pewter Report that Gibson's workout was "great" but tat signing does not appear imminent. Tampa Bay had interest in Gibson before, but ended up signing Darrell Russell instead, who subsequently was cut for failing the parameters of his substance abuse program. One of the big stories of Buccaneer training camp is over for the season. Receiver Edell Shepherd suffered a broken foot in Monday's preseason win against Cincinnati, and was placed on Injured Reserve Wednesday afternoon by the team. Also offensive guard Jason Whittle suffered a slight fracture of his left hand but might be ready to return for Friday's game at Jacksonvile. The play in which Shepherd broke his foot happened in the second quarter on a pass from Chris Simms into the end zone, where Shepherd jumped for the ball but got tangled with a Bengal defender on the way down. But there was plenty of good news on the injury front from Wednesday, when the team held what will be its only practice of the week. Offensive lineman Kerry Jenkins returned to practice in full, and a trio of players who who also sat the preseason opener -- Matt Stinchcomb, Jeff Gooch and Charles Lee -- also practiced in a limited fashion. It looks like Derrick Deese and Derrick Brooks are the only players who will certainly miss Friday's game in Jacksonville. Joe Jurevicius may be returning to the team sooner than expected. When he underwent back surgery during training camp, Jurevicius was feared lost for at least half the season. "He feels much better now than he has in some time.
