Hail to Buffalo: Triple-A Buffalo captured the 2004 International League championship with a 6-1 victory over Richmond in Game 4 of the Governor's Cup on Friday night.

Jason Tyner had a two-run double in the fifth, and Dusty Wathan had a three-run double in the sixth, giving right-hander Evan Thomas all the cushion he would need to pull out the big win. Thomas gave up one run on five hits in seven innings, striking out eight and walking none.

It was the Bisons' second Governor's Cup crown since the team rejoined the IL in 1998.

The Bisons became the fourth Indians minor league team to win a championship this year. Class A Kinston, Class A Mahoning Valley and the Tribe's Dominican Summer League team all won titles.

Buffalo's big win is impressive, especially considering the team was 9 1/2 games out of first place in its division as recently as June 13.

International League MVP Jhonny Peralta, outfielder Grady Sizemore and second baseman Brandon Phillips are three Bisons players guaranteed to be called up to the Indians in the next day or so. No doubt, several others will be joining them on trip west on Interstate 90.

Oh yes. It is time. :mischief

Jhonny Watch is now in effect.
