September 20, 200422 yr I recently had trouble where i could not boot my computer...i tried everything Everything on the hard drive that was used to boot from was erased (or something like that).....im thinking it was a virus (right?) So i completely formatted the drive and i try to install windows and i get a Atapi.sys is corrupted error within 3 minutes of starting the XP installation This is all after the disk has been formatted, so how can the file be corrupted? I thought it might have been the XP disk, but i tried 2 different disks and the same thing happened both times... How do i restore this file? Where is it even being saved after the format?

September 21, 200422 yr I highly suggest NOT installing SP2. Just see if you can get someone to make you a copy of SP1a with XP and thats it. Trust me, SP2 isn't all that and in some cases could make your computer worse.

September 27, 200422 yr Author well i cured the problem by taking out the cd burner i had in there and installing a different CD drive now it seems a different system file is corrupted motherboard issue?
