Atapi.sys corrupted

I recently had trouble where i could not boot my computer...i tried everything

Everything on the hard drive that was used to boot from was erased (or something like that).....im thinking it was a virus (right?)

So i completely formatted the drive and i try to install windows and i get a Atapi.sys is corrupted error within 3 minutes of starting the XP installation

This is all after the disk has been formatted, so how can the file be corrupted? I thought it might have been the XP disk, but i tried 2 different disks and the same thing happened both times...

How do i restore this file? Where is it even being saved after the format?

that looks like it could have been my problem although my hard drive wasnt over 137 GB

how do they expect you to download a service pack if your computer doesnt even boot?

Ask a friend to download it and burn it for you.
