I say mediocrity.

 

You have 3 really good teams in Philly, New England, and Indianapolis, then twenty something pretty bad teams, who are seperated by a few select plays and coaching decisions, and they there are a few really bad teams, like Arizona and San Francisco and Miami.

 

What do you think?

You have Philly, some decent teams and a lot of awful teams. Tons of mistakes all around.

 

It's beter than the NBA though.

There's too many of teams with one or no losses and teams with one or no teams. :thumbdown

Parity, which has been presented as the greatest thing about the NFL is also fast becoming the worst thing about it, too.

 

Granted, it's fun for fans to know that almost every year their team has a shot, but the problem is this:

 

There's a finite amount of talent in the league at any given time. Too much balance ensures that while every team hovers just above or below "good", there are no standout "great" teams. As an example, look at NE.

 

Their roster is chock full of very good players, but none great. Ask yourself, in 20 years will anyone be able to sit around and rip off the names of 20, or 10, or even five of the players that help make NE as good as they are today? Or, as another example, ask the average fan to name more than 3-5 players off of the "great" cowboys teams of the early-mid 1990's.

 

Nowadays to be a dynasty all you need to be is a very good team beating average teams, not a great team demolishing everyone with dominance.

 

 

And along with parity you have labbor strife on the horizon, with small market teams (ie Indy) lodging legitimate complaints that even they, with their huge profit sharing, can't keep up with signing bonuses that are rising exponetially.

 

Oh, and don't forget the neverending battle with drugs/steroids, deplorable wife-beating, drug dealing, murder and paternity. And yet another issue, the NFL/NCAA relationship and the future of the draft with underage players.

 

 

We have seen or are seeing these problems being dealt with somewhat by other professional leagues, but IMHO the NFL hasn't sidestepped the issues the other leagues haev dealt with, only delayed their impact.

I don't know, but I'd say a good 2/3 of the team records are very suprising.
