godsmack was awesome at the concert.. cant say i will not go to another one that there playin at...

Metallica was awesome as well..

Though i was more into godsmack..

Holy f***.

That was awesome.

I was on the barricade, nothing in between the stage and me.

I'm don't really like Godsmack, but they were pretty good for an Opening Act. The drum rolls that the lead singer and the drummer did at the same time kicked ass. Their performance of "I Stand Alone" was pretty good (the only song of theirs I really have heard), and they had a solid amount of crowd participation considering maybe 3/4 of the place had gotten to their seats when they were there. But damn, those drum solos ruled.

About 45 minutes passed from the end of Godsmack to the next phase of the show. They changed up the stage and got ready to go. A few times roadies would come out and sound off on some of the guitars as they fine tuned them, just to see the crowd react. One of the guys working a spotlight tried for about half an hour to get a girl to flash him, and he eventually did, that was sweet.

The lights go off for good, and we wait about 30 seconds. Then cue the "Ecstasy of Gold", very softly though. Many didn't know what was happening, Busto caught it first and then my other friend and I caught on. The song played its course, and the crowd goes nuts as it the song ends with a spotlight of James standing on the top stage to greet the crowd. The spotlights slowly focus on every member, and off James goes into "Blackened". They started off incredibly strong, playing "Blackened" (crowd loved it), then having fire shoot from all corners from the stage as they went into "Fuel". The crowd then really got into it with the performance of "The Memory Remains."

The band then disappeared for about a minute as the lights went dark again. Suddenly, it came. The sitar playing in the background, the intro to "Wherever I May Roam". The place went nuts when it started playing, as did I since it's my favorite Metallica song. James was singing it, and then came time for the solo. So where does Kirk go to play both parts? Right in front of me, of course. f***ing awesome.

After "Wherever I May Roam", they played "Frantic" from St. Anger. I have a thing against St. Anger so I haven't heard it, but it wasn't too bad of a song. Kirk finished off the song with a minute or more of just playing with his guitar, stopping like he was done and restarting, much to the pleasure of everyone in attendance. After that, completely out of no where, came "Turn The Page". No complaints of course, the entire crowd sung it, almost as loud as James at some points. Robert Trujillo, the new bassist, played a bass solo in between songs that was made famous by Cliff Burton, and he did a pretty good job at it. They played the last St. Anger song after that, "Dirty Window" (again, it wasn't too shabby), followed by a re-appearance of and old favorite, "King Nothing". Then came an amazing twenty minute run of three classics from the same CD. "Sanitarium" came first, much to the crowds delight, and the solo sounded better than ever. Then the music died down for about 30 seconds as James and Kirk played with their guitars very softly, and then BOOM straight into "Master of Puppets". That one really got the crowd into it. Then another 30 seconds of silence, and of came the minute long intro with an acoustic guitar everyone recognizes, and another explosion into "Battery". All the lights came on after that and they said thank you, and walked off.

The lights were off and some people actually thought they were done. But alas, a couple of minutes later there is James standing on top of the stage, with a slightly altered intro into "I Disappear". Then Kirk did about a two minute long guitar solo by himself, walked across the stage, and opened "Nothing Else Matters". Everyone in the building sang along, and the lighters were out in full force. The funny part of that was that Kirk had actually opened the song with the wrong guitar, but James came and covered later on in the part they are supposed to play together. He later came out with the correctly tuned guitar to play his solo and finish the song off. With another slightly altered intro, they went into "Sad But True", another crowd favorite. After they finished Sad But True they huddled under the stage in preparation.

Lights went off, and the quotes from several war movies began ringing over the stage. Part of the top of the stage dropped, and they were ready to play the gun shots that open up "One". Of course, Metallica apparently decided gun shots didn't hurt one's eyes and ears enough, so they blasted fireworks as artillery, two for every one gun shot it seemed, for the entire 45 second war intro. Then out popped James to open the song up, Kirk, Lars, and Robert following. The rendition was great, and once it was over they all stopped and the lights dimmed a bit. James crouched on the floor and there was silence, before they blasted into "Enter Sandman". The crowd was as excited as possible, you could clearly make out the crowd's voice during the song (remember, I'm close enough where I am surrounded by speakers). Whenever James would begin the verse, it seemed like his "Exit: Light" line was only barely louder than the crowd shouting back "Enter: Night" at his request. The song finished, and they could have stopped because it was a hell of an exit. Lars gave away drumsticks, Kirk and James threw guitar picks into the crowd (I caught two, sweet) and they said thank yous.

James then got on the mic, asked thew crowd to finish the song lyric: "Dyer's?" "EVE!" "Dyer's?" "EVE!". They sang Dyer's Eve, much to the please of all who finished the song lyric. James then got on the mic, asked the crowd if they wanted one more song, and proposed a deal; One more song for every ounce of energy everyone had left. That's exactly what the place gave them, as they sung a throwback song from Kill Em All, Seek and Destroy. Towards the end of the song the crowd got really loud, yelling the "SEEK AND DESTROY!" parts louder than James was singing previously on the mic. The song ended, the band members went around giving some people hand shakes and high fives, Lars gave out another pair of drumsticks, they gathered all on the top stage, bowed and it was over.

Not too shabby for a first concert.
