....real early baseball. Not the early 1900's I'm talking about the mid to late 1800's when baseball started to be played. Real early baseball. Really need to catch up on that part of baseball history.

Beadle's Dime baseball players book from the 1860's is by far the greatest book you could ever read about the very early days of baseball.

Well, I'm reading a book about baseball and government and they mention a bit how the Civil War helped greatly expand the game of baseball. Maybe you should look into the connection between the two.
