November 16, 200421 yr Anyone know? I'm not sure if he's ever said if he'd play in FL. Reading about doing a 3-way deal with the DBacks and Angels and sending him there seems like a bad move IF Randy would play for us. If he is unwilling to move to South FL, then I understand why we'd make a deal with the DBacks but not get Randy in it. He's owed $10.5 million next and his contract defers $6 million (from his $16.5 million a year contract) for 2006 and 2007. I'm not sure if the Angels were planning to also pay that $12 million, if they were going to split it with the Dbacks, or if the DBacks were going to pick it up. If the DBacks would pick up the deferred money and Randy was interested in playing in FL, sending Enc, Stokes, Olsen and Wilson (think that is the INF prospect) to the DBacks should be enough to get Randy. We'd only owe him $3.5 million more than we've offered Pavano and would get rid of Enc. I don't know if Randy wants an extension or not, but a 2-year $20 million extension might do, and we have Hampton's money coming off the book next year. I know he is old, but I think Randy could pitch until his mid 40s and still be an ace. Randy Beckett AJ Willis Valdez/rookie *DROOLS* Yeah, I know it probably won't happen, but I can dream. I have a feeling Randy wouldn't want to play in FL and kill the deal, but who knows. It is obvious the DBacks like our prospects more than the Angels or Yankees. It is worth a shot.
