Loria addresses the future of the Marlins
I'd love to rip them, but I can't blame them. South FL sucks and has treated them badly. I'd do the same thing. Of course, I would have kept Castillo and Beckett and made trades for non-pitching prospects, but I'd trade off the rest of them. Sadly, South Florida doesn't deserve baseball.

Beckett On The Marlins, Fans, Blisters, 2003, John Henry
It makes me sick that we traded Beckett. Hanley better be a Hall of Fame SS or this trade will forever suck to me. At least Beckett is going to Boston. I may have to buy his Boston jersey when it comes out. The Red Sox have always been one of my three favorite teams. Hopefully they can lock him up with a long term contract.

Problem with Beckett deal?
Good. It makes me sick to trade Beckett. Trade Pierre and Lo Duca and keep Beckett.

Trade Tidbits from the Palm Beach Post
Keep Castillo if he wants to stay. Trade Pierre and Lo Duca if we get good offers.

Ken Rosenthal Makes Sense (Merged Topic)
Miami is primed to on a large scale become to the Western Hemisphere what New York is to the Northern Hemisphere. You're post are normally right on, but that is one of the dumbest things I've ever read. If the area is so rich, why can't they fund a stadium? Miami isn't even in Atlanta's league, much less New York. Miami is to blame. Get over it, people. Loria has put a world champion on the field, put up almost $200 million of his own money for a stadium, and cheap ass Miami still can't make it work. The idiots running that area built two arenas for the sorry ass Heat and one for a damn hockey team. A HOCKEY TEAM!!!!! There is no one to blame but the lack of fan support and the lack of competent politicans in South Florida. South Florida supports the freakin' Panthers more than the Marlins. That is the bottom line. I'd move the team to Las Vegas if I was Loria. I wouldn't even offer up the money he's already stated he would spend to build the stadium. Use the one year leases at Pro Player while Vegas builds the stadium Miami should have built years ago. Unless Miami nuts up, this team is gone in the future and I can't blame them.

Pitching prospects, possible future deals?
Well, I still think our natural trading parther is the DRays. They have the best position player farm system and we now likely have the best pitching farm system. Maybe their new owner will realize they can't rape every team like they did with the Mets. They can only play 3 OFers and Upton seems like he's destined for RF or LF. We could make a trade that helps both teams. I'd give up Vargas in a second for Upton, but I doubt the DRays would. I'm a big fan of Gathright as well. He'd look good in CF if we can pull off a trade of Pierre for a solid group of prospects. Baldeli (sp?), Crawford and Young is their future OF. The rest are trade bait for pitching prospects, IMO.

Pitching prospects, possible future deals?
With all our pitching prospects, I can't imagine us not making more deals for position players. With Tampa's overcrowded position player farm system and lack of pitching, I wonder what pitching prospects it would take to pry BJ Uptown from Tampa. He could make a good OF and will end up a great hitter, IMO. Uptown/Cabrera/Ramirez/Hermida could be a good, young nucleus for the future.

Baseball America says Brandon Wood # 1 in AFL
The Angels minor league system is stacked. I wish they had interest in some of the guys we're trying to get rid of. I'm sure Vlad would love to have Delgado hitting behind him.
-
For you minor league gurus
I'm pretty sure it's from the day they were signed. Damn. So much for that dream. I wonder if Hanson is the third player in a Boston deal and they're waiting until he's eligible to be traded. :mischief2
-
For you minor league gurus
How long must you have a prospect before you can trade him? Is it when you sign the prospect or the date he's drafted? If we've decided to forget next year, it is time to move Delgado. Send Delgado to Boston, Manny to the Angels, and pry away Weaver and some of the Angels good prospects. If the DBacks are serious about contending next year, I'd love to make a deal with them that involved Stephen Drew, but I doubt that would ever happen. He could play the OF or 2B if we do deal Castillo. Delgado may be too expensive for them. I wish they'd take Lo Duca and Pierre for Drew. Okay, I'm done thinking out loud now. :whistle

"Sources: Marlins close to fire sale"
I'll be f***ing pissed if we trade Beckett or Castillo. Trade the others if we have to, but we better not trade those two! :mad :banghead

ESPN1000 says Cubs close to getting Pierre
We better not trade Pierre for pitching prospects unless we have another deal lined up. Unless we get some stud every day prospect or get rid of Lowell's entire contract, I wouldn't trade him.

ESPN1000 says Cubs close to getting Pierre
Does anyone have a link to bios for Pie and Murton? I only keep up with Marlins and ex-FSU minor leaguers. Pie is one of the top prospects for the Cubs and plays center field. Murton played left field for the Cubs this past year. In 140 at bats, these were his numbers: .321, .386, .907 (7 homeruns). Pretty good, no? Thanks for the info.

Vasquez to the Fish?
The Twins wanted half of Lowell's contract paid for by the Marlins during the Lohse negotiations. Why is everyone so excited about possibly getting a guy with an 89-93 record and 4.28 era for his career? Why was/is everyone excited about Burnett? Some people feel our talented pitching prospects can not handle filling three spots on a rotation of a playoff contender. Vazquez comes at a price that is much more in line with his talent than most of the free agent options. And wants to come here, okay, some place like here. Which begs the question, what would the DBacks give up to make it happen? They are losing Vasquez. How much would they pay for good prospects? Who knows. On the other hand, the DBacks are building for the future, IMO. Maybe they try to trade Glaus to the Twins to get some good prospects and put Lowell at 3B for two years while they build for the future. If they could get enough good prospects from us and the Twins, maybe they'd give up Glaus and stick Lowell at 3B while they work their young guys (like Drew) into the starting lineup over the next two years. DBacks Lowell Vargas Twins' prospects Twins Glaus (probably some money as well from the DBacks) Marlins Vasquez Counsel 1. Pierre 2. Castillo 3. Cabrera 4. Delgado 5. Lo Duca 6. Hermida 7. Conine/Willingham 8. Counsel 1. Willis 2. Beckett 3. Vasquez 4. Olsen 5. Johnson

Vasquez to the Fish?
Vasquez is owed $8.5 million this year and $9.5 million next year. Lowell is owed $9 million the next two years. Marlins Vasquez Twins Lowell and money from the DBacks DBacks Good prospects from the Marlins and Twins I'd include Vargas or Olsen if we could get Counsel included in the deal to play SS next season. If we pulled it off, I'd let AGon walk. There is enough salary coming off the books to have Vasquez and Delgado if we played a cheap veteran or rookie at SS and had two cheap corner OFs.

Fight
Villone would beat the sh*t out of Cabrera. Hell, I'd take Villone in a fight over any other player on our team. You would? I think Dontrelle would destroy Villone. You think Willis could beat up Villone? Are you serious?

I'm bored, what about this deal
I don't think we have to spend anywhere near that kind of money on a shortstop, or could afford to, but I do think Lowell may well succeed in friendly Fenway. I agree, but it is a lose-lose situation. I look it at the Marlins/Rockies/Braves deal. Sometimes you have to trade one bad salary for another. I look at it as trading the Lowell/AGon salaries for Renteria/Conine/Willingham. In the overall scheme of things, the cost to resign AGon with Lowell cancels out the extra year for Renteria but would make us a better team.

I'm bored, what about this deal
Wake up!!! Wake up!!! I'm awake. I've had a couple beers after work, but I'm awake. It isn't that crazy to me. Renteria had about 100 errors in Boston, couldn't hit for crap most of the year, was booed by Boston fans, has a much larger contract than Lowell, and they have their best prospect at SS. I don't think it is that crazy.

I'm bored, what about this deal
Red Sox get Lowell; Marlins get Renteria and $3 million (for the buyout) Lowell 06 - $9 million 07 - $9 million Renteria 06 - $8 million 07 - $9 million 08 - $9 million 09 - $11 million club option; $3 million buyout If the Red Sox are ready to move Renteria to 2B after his horrible year to make room for Ramirez, I'm sure they're willing to trade him. If they'd trade Manny, they'd trade Renteria, IMO. Boston - Lowell has a Gold Glove and his current swing would do great in Boston, IMO. Plus, Boston would clear $8 million in the deal they could use for pitching in the future. Depending on who the new GM is, that combination could be appealing. Florida - Renteria looks uncomfortable in Boston and a complete bust there. He'd still be a good player in FL, IMO. Is he worth is contract? No, but neither is Lowell. It would save us money in the end, because we wouldn't have to worry about AGon being overpaid or a non-MLB quality player like Andino there. We'd save money by having Conine/Willingham hold down LF with Cabrera at 3B. We'd pay more total compared to Lowell, but it would save money if you figure in what it would take to resign AGon. 1. Pierre 2. Castillo 3. Cabrera 4. Delgado 5. Hermia 6. Renteria 7. Lo Duca 8. Conine/Willingham Thoughts?
