November 27, 200421 yr Whether Benson will have Leiter as a teammate again is another matter. The veteran southpaw remains unsigned, and though he and the Mets continue to negotiate, there is already a one-year offer on the table for $7 million from the Marlins that Leiter is considering. The Marlins have also offered Leiter a spot in their television booth upon his retirement. The Yankees and Phillies are also possible suitors for Leiter. When pressed on whether the front office was united in its plans to bring Leiter back or if he was exploring other options, however, Minaya was not forthcoming. "I don't want to comment too much on the Leiter front, other than we're having discussions," Minaya said. "They are ongoing, and we are sensitive to what the thinking is on the Al Leiter front." http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/nym...s_nym&fext=.jsp
November 27, 200421 yr No news. Leiter's probably waiting for them to offer $7MM or arbitration (in which he'll get close to that) by December 7th. I wonder where the Marlins' offer stand with the Yankees' should the Mets turn him away.
