Freak dancing

Featured Replies

So I'm reading our local newspapper yesterday and came accross an article on how our school system (Fauquier) has banned all freak dancing at dances. Rumor has it is because a couple kids were caught having sex in the school during a dance. I'm now assuming that the only dance kids will go to is Prom now. No one is going to want to pay money to stand around because I remember freak dancing was all there was there except for some people on the outside who just kind of stood there.

Allegations of obscene music and crude - downright raunchy - dancing at an October high school homecoming caused quite a stir.

The hubbub over behavior at Liberty High School's homecoming dance also has prompted education officials to change the rules for such events.

Superintendent J. David Martin last week outlined dictums that not only prescribe what kind of music kids can listen to at future dances, but also how they can dance to it.

Liberty Principal Roger Lee on Dec. 9 mailed the new rules to students' households. Copies also went to Fauquier High School students.

To attend a future dance, students and parents must sign off on the new regulations. Kids' dates also must have permission to attend.

The following rules also apply:

School dances must have at least one chaperone per 30 students. Chaperones must undergo a criminal background check.

Songs or albums carrying "parental advisory" labels are prohibited.

No middle school students may attend a high school dance.

No "freak dancing, lap dancing, or simulated sex acts."

Schools could use hidden cameras to monitor future dances.

"We have developed these new guidelines to reinforce the high expectations we all have for student behavior," Dr. Martin said.

Liberty holds its next dance - the "Winterfest" - on Saturday, Feb. 5.

i enjoy swing dancing or a little ballroom (yah, high class I know), "freak dancing", and even some shagging. It is sad that the only dancing seen in high schools is dancing that gives guys wood within 30 seconds into the dancing.

Granted, I have my fun dancing to rap music, but kids don't know how to dance to anything else (unless they call stepping side to side with hands around a girl's waste, and her's around his neck dancing).

Oh well, maybe college will culture them up some....probably not.
