December 28, 200421 yr I got a Linksys BESFX41 broadband router for Christmas. Been trying the last day and a half to get the router connected to my PC (Windows XP home, BellSouth Fast Access DSL). I'm using the set-up disk that comes with the router. The disk says I have to be online before conecting the router. Once I'm online, then I'm to disconnect the ethernet cable running from the PC, connect that to my router, and run another cable from the router to the PC, and power the router.. My problem is, when I do that, the computer is supposed to do more stuff online to finish setting up the router, but I lose the net connection and am unable to finish. So then I try to set up the router without using the setup disk. If I connect the router and try to go online to finish the setup manually, my PC doesn't recognize the router, and I can't go online. If I go to my control panel and change my Lan connection from a dynamic IP to a static IP, then the router is recognized, but I still can't go online. I'm getting close to my wit's end for this. A couple of calls to Linksys tech support haven't helped much. Anyone else have any ideas I could try?
January 2, 200521 yr I had a similar problem where the router and DSL modem were using the same IP address. I finally found a Linksys tech rep that had enough knowledge to identify the problem. I simply changed the IP address of the router to a unique number and the problem was resolved.
