February 1, 200521 yr So, Conine holds a celebrity golf tournament every year to benefit the Joe Dimaggio's Children's Hospital. I think this was its 11th year. Anyway, I volunteered there this year, and basically sat by the first hole and gave stuff away. I don't know if anyone cares, really, but I met (among Marlins-related folks) Lowell, Conine (duh), AJ Burnett, Spooneybarger, Dontrelle (!!!), Tommy Hutton, and Boog. And Cookie Rojas. Oh, and Pudge. I thought it was cool that he showed up, and I no longer harbor any resentment towards the man for skipping town. Dontrelle's group was by far the most entertaining. It was Dontrelle and I think three Miccosukees, and not one of them could play golf for s***. Dontrelle's swinging motion is comparable to his pitching motion. They were zinging the ball back and forth across the green. Supposedly, D-train just swung a golf club for the first time about 2 weeks ago, and yesterday on the driving range he broke both a 3-wood and a 5-wood. Yet, by some miracle, of 144 golfers, his shot on the 6th hole (one of those island-type par 3's) was the closest to the pin, and he won some kind of prize. Anyway, it was a fun day, but I'm all kinds of red now from the sun... Oh, and in case anyone's wondering...Conine obviously was unable to play.
