February 9, 200521 yr Why should I pay school taxes?? I'm not going to school. 680895 You're paying school taxes for the year 2070? So sorry, but I don't at this time. Sorry, but I'm only concerned about the present not many generations from now. 680904 There's people going to school now who will be alive when I'm dead :plain Yea, I'm paying for a future generation. You seem confused about how SS operates. Its NOT a bank account where money piles up - its a straight up transfer program. The same dollars that go IN today from workers, go OUT today to today's SS recipients. 680908 I'm aware of that, however the point when social security is not paying it's own way has been projected to occur anywhere from 2047 to 2070. Yet the current proposal is to cut benefits to those 55 and under. So I would be affected to save a future generation. Let the future generation in 2047 figure it out if there is even a problem then. Yet it is not same dollars in and same dollars exactly as past SS surpluses are also credited to the present and future SS payments by the feds.
February 9, 200521 yr If nothing is done with Social Security, two things could happen. Either it will go broke and people won't ever get it, or if we wait too long to fix, the burden on society with taking care of Social Security obligations will lower income and lower American's ability to take care of their children to a degree that would be horribly wrong and unfair to the future prospects of the country. :whistle
