I Like The 7 Inning Game Plan...

Isn't it true that Almanza can't be demoted? Isn't he, like Castro, out of options? Or am I just crazy?

that might just Be Tejerrible....

who cares, if he is out of options then someone would just pick him up, if anyone would even bother with him, he'd prob go to the tigers or something, i wouldnt care, just get him out of here

It is funny. This ongoing love/hate relationship with Alamanza some of you all have. I have never thought much of him, in fact, if he wasnt a lefty, he probably wouldnt be anywhere near a big league ball park. At the beginning of the season though, many of you were giving him rave reviews...

His ERA is up more than a whole run (5.91, last year 4.34 and 4.80's in '00, 01) and hitters are batting .299 against him! But statistically, I think things are a little overblown. He has only given up 6 more ER thans last year in only 3 innings less work. He has only given up 1 more HR, his K/9IP is 9.28. I think this guy is good enough to be a situational lefty. I also think one bad outing has cost him statistically. One good outing could right him too...

This strategy of shortening the game is why I am so bothered by the negative reviews the Marlins have recieved for the trade with UU. The D Backs gave up similar talent for Mantei a few years back - and he wasnt even a proven 40SV man! Also, they traded pitching for him, not a position of depth within their organization at the time. (tell me that the D Backs wouldnt rather Penny over Mantei...hindsight and all...). Anyway, we have a strong enough bullpen to take innings off our starters and keep them rested for the stretch run. I am especially worried about Redman tiring out like last year, but he has spent some time on the DL which may be all the rest he needed. Besides, Redman is probably our best pitcher - after the phenomenal D Train.

I like Bump a lot. I thought he should have been called up over D Train at the time that decision was made. I was afraid we were rushing D, but it turns out I was wrong there. But Bump is an asset to our bullpen - a reliever who can spot start. Hopefully, we will only need him in the bullpen...sorry for the epic post... :w00t :whistle
