July 22, 200322 yr now with Urbina and Loop in the 8th and 9th all we need from our starters is 7ip, and if Spooney AA or Nunez EVER come back we can have even more depth and matchup possibilites. this team looks like a playoff contender to me.

July 22, 200322 yr We really only need 6 IP from the starters, Urbina CAN go 2 IP, but it's not like we have all bad pitchers in the pen besides Uggy and Loop.

July 22, 200322 yr That's only for a Pavano start most of the time. Pavano will usually give you 6 very good IP, and occasionally 7 IP. Redman can easily go 7 IP. Penny can also easily go 7, maybe even 8, but 6 is more comfortable. Dontrelle can easily go 7, but I'm comfortable with just that, no more. Beckett is the same as Dontrelle... Pavz can go 6 very strong IP, but if you get greedy and stretch for 7, you might be screwing yourself...
July 22, 200322 yr Author i dont know what the rest of you think but i like having Nate Bump in the pen, hes been a starter and a reliever in the minors just like Tejera. we need to keep our big 5 healthy and not "Torborg" them
July 22, 200322 yr Like W.C. said a bout Pav's u can screw urself keeping him in to long.. He has a nasty track record of falling apart after the 6th or 7th

I think he has impressed even Ramp and Das to this point, and will be an important part of the pen int he second half...
July 22, 200322 yr I tell ya a reliever I'd be looking at if I were the Marlins (or another contending club): Kyle Farnsworth with the Cubs. Since they're still in the race, I don't know if they'd trade him. But I saw him tonight and.....wow. Struck out Sheff, Chipper and Andruw in one inning. Hit 100 on the gun with Sheff. Has great control, appx. 46 IP and 31 Hits, and 50-some strikeouts. I believe he used to be a starter. More on topic...I like the 7 inning plan too. Yeah.
July 22, 200322 yr The 7 inning plan is perfect, just hope the offense can put up enough numbers continuously.

July 22, 200322 yr Again...Looper and Uggy can't pitch EVERY night... Don't assume it's always gonna be 7 innings then Looper and Uggy...

Spooney has being solid this year. When he come back you can use him to be the setup man if Uggy is tired or if Loop is tired, and then uggy closes the game. So Spooney will still be an important part of the pen when he comes back. I also like Bump I think that until spooney comes back he should be used in case a starter does not go 7 innings. I think TJ should try and not use Tejera and AA too often. If he needs a lefty he should go with Tommy instead. Overall i think the pen will not blow as many games as they used to do.
July 22, 200322 yr Yea but he still a good guy too have. Kooliano said he should NEVER come back which makes no sense to me.

July 22, 200322 yr i dont know what the rest of you think but i like having Nate Bump in the pen, hes been a starter and a reliever in the minors just like Tejera. we need to keep our big 5 healthy and not "Torborg" them What we need is to trade Almanza, get rid of him or use him only as a situational lefty. Never, and I mean NEVER, let him pitch more than one inning. Maybe two lefty batters tops, that's it. The guy relies on a curveball that is not working this year, and on a 96mph fastball that everybody sees it coming. It doesn't make sense to put him out there at all, let alone for more than one inning... ALMANZA :chair

Just judging him from the last time we faced him he throws way too many fastballs. I don't know if thats his only pitch but he got killed against us because our hitters were looking for fastballs. Maybe thats why he was a former starter because hitters just figure him out too quick to be effective.
July 22, 200322 yr just dont put him in the game..... at all put him in the minors or trade him for cash
July 22, 200322 yr he did? i dont see it Oh my bad. I reread his post and he meant that if they ever come back to what they were last year. :banghead
July 22, 200322 yr Author i didnt say Spoon should never come back. lets get that straight. my main point was it is great to have two real stoppers at the end of the game and we never know what can happen with some of the underperformers from this year who might really contribute in the end, if Nunez and AA can somehow get it together for the stretch, watch out.
July 22, 200322 yr AA is garbage, complete garbage, there is nothing to get back from him, nunez, however, can be good again, you're right, if he can get back on track, the way he pitched the first half of last year, the bullpen would be pretty nasty, especially when spooney comes back
July 22, 200322 yr Isn't it true that Almanza can't be demoted? Isn't he, like Castro, out of options? Or am I just crazy?
