Passion
Baseball player Josh Hamilton has been charged with destroying the rearview mirror and shattering the windshield of a family friend's pickup truck. Hamilton was a top pitching prospect of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Hamilton, 24, told a Wake County magistrate that he was drinking alcohol at a party Saturday evening and got into an argument with his wife before the incident. The News and Observer reports that Cary police said Hamilton had been at a party with his wife and they left. At some point, he got out of the car and began walking and was found at a gas station. When a friend arrived to pick up Hamilton, police say he allegedly used his fist to break the windshield and mirror and broke a bat over his knee. He was charged with misdemeanor damage to property and released on a promise to appear in court. Hamilton is a graduate of Raleigh's Athens Drive High School and signed with the Devil Rays in 1999 for a $3.6 million bonus. He is in the second full season of suspension from professional baseball for drug use and has been in a recovery program. http://www.nbc17.com/news/4517080/detail.html What a waste of talent. Every time I see his name, I remember how fortunate we are that the 1999 draft played out the way it did. I guess Allison is our "draft karma."
