Not a whole lot different than many of the comments on this board today.

Struggling offense one of the keys to team's recent slide

Marlins Headlines

WASHINGTON -- All things considered, the Marlins are still pretty well positioned in the standings, despite their worst stretch of the season.

Losers of nine of their last 11 games heading into Sunday, the Marlins are one game behind the Braves in the tightly-packed National League East.

"We're a little fortunate," catcher Paul Lo Duca said of being just a game out. "We haven't played good at all. If we play the way we're capable of playing, we'll win this division. I'm a firm believer of that. But we need to get it done. So much for trying, we need to get it done."

The Marlins' struggles are largely attributed to a sluggish offense that is third in the NL in team batting average (.272) but tied for 12th in the league in runs scored (233).

"We're not getting it done at the right time," said Lo Duca, who hit third in the order for the first time this season on Sunday. "We're not getting timely hits. We're stringing hits together, but we've left a lot of runners on.

"I'm a prime example. I haven't driven in runs. I'm doing terrible with guys in scoring position. We need to bear down, and give each other up, and do the little things to score. We've got way too good of a club to be playing the way we're playing right now, that's the bottom line.

"I've never been a fan of saying, 'Oh, it's the beginning. It's still early.' Every game counts from one all the way to 162. We need to start playing better than the way we've been playing."

He hit good when it counted today.

He had 2 singles and got robbed of a hit with RISP.

With the first hit he should have had an RBI but Castillo stopped at 3rd.

With the second hit he got an RBI.

On the 3rd opportunitie he got absolutely ROBBED by Guzman, but I think he was still safe at first anyways.

And he had 3 hits in the ballgame.

So he sure did his part today.

We've probably led the league in bases empty 2-out hits the past month.

Yep. Seems like we get a hit or two with 2 outs, and perhaps even a walk....then the pitchers spot comes up. :plain

Or Castillo and Pierre get on base and Delgado and Cabrera go down swinging.
