June 26, 200521 yr May Day: Gatti Suffers Beating Floyd Mayweather Unbeaten Floyd Mayweather ran his record to 34-0 with a vicious beating of Arturo Gatti tonight in Atlantic City. The fight was stopped by Gatti's corner after six rounds; Gatti's left eye was swollen shut as Mayweather won the WBC junior welterweight title. I was gonna order the fight but I'm glad I didn't. I really liked Gatti coming in and despised Mayweather for his endless trash talking. Well, he backed it up and more tonight I suppose.
June 26, 200521 yr I can't stand Mayweather, but I do give him credit for completely annihilating Gatti. The division is his for the taking, because even though I like Hatton, I can't imagine him beating Floyd either. Eventually maybe Cotto has a chance, but it's probably way too early for that.
June 26, 200521 yr Cotto doesn't impress me. He's really not fighitng the competition you expect from a guy that's as talked up as he is. He's dirty and despite his best efforts, he'll eventually have to move up a weight class. I think Hatton has a chance, no one thought he could do anything against Kostya ... and you know what happened.
June 26, 200521 yr the key stat was Gatti landed 10 punches. I watched the fight and it was so lopsided it was unbelievable .
June 27, 200521 yr Author He landed TEN punches the whole fight? Where was the guy who was fighting Ward?
June 27, 200521 yr 10 puches landed. As for the ward question im not a big boxing fan but i know that If your opponent lands a hundred something and you drop 10 its not good.
June 27, 200521 yr Author Well, He had a fight of the year with Mickey Ward and the rematch was unbelievable as well. He showed heart and a ton of skill in those fights but I guess he was just outmatched here.
June 27, 200521 yr i get you nugget, From the Get go Mayweather was fast and throwing good puches and gatti wasnt doing anything really. In the third round Mayweather crouched and was punching Gatti low and the ref said stop so gatti sort of backed off, stopped, waited for the ref and all of the sudden Mayweather drills Gatti in the face when the ref clearly says stop and the ref didnt do shyt. From there the fight was just Mayweather beatin the shyt out of Gatti.
July 1, 200521 yr That was in the first, and Gatti was a dumbass for not protecting himself. 10 power punches was just sad, but Mayweather looks like the best fighter in the world right now, he's just so fast but incredibly accurate. He was tagging Gatti harder going backwards than Gatti was hitting him coming straight forward. Everytime Gatti landed one punch, Mayweather was right there five. Just complete and utter domination.
July 1, 200521 yr Mayweather is easily the best LB for LB fighter in the world now. Kellerman made a brilliant comment during the broadcast about the only fighter that made Mayweather look human was Castillo who is now one of the best fighters in the world after the epic battle for control of The Lightweight Division. A battle Corralles won who as we know was destroyed by Mayweather. Mayweather is in the best shape any one can possibly in. He's fast, he's strong, and he has perfect stamina. What's it going to take to beat him? I don't know, if Ricky Hatton isn't afraid of him some of his vicious body shots could certainly slow Floyd down. It's going to take a gutsy body puncher to bring down Pretty Boy Floyd.
