Former Mariners coach Bryan Price to interview with Marlins

Featured Replies

Former Seattle Mariners pitching coach Bryan Price, who appears to be a leading candidate for the Diamondbacks vacant pitching coach position, said Tuesday he was planning to interview over the phone later in the day for a position with the Florida Marlins.

Price said he also will likely interview with another team later in the week.

The Diamondbacks, who have not arranged interviews with any other candidates, are expected to wait on Price, whom they interviewed last week.

"I would like to honor those interviews and follow up," Price said. "I have a feeling that some time by either week's end or early next week, we should have an idea of what direction I'm going to go."

Price had planned to meet with Marlins executives in New York on Tuesday, but a shoulder injury suffered during a mountain biking accident last Thursday has kept him from traveling away from his Scottsdale home.

Price was on a local trail when he went over his handlebars and separated his shoulder.

"You make a bad choice and next thing you know, you're going over a boulder," said Price, who is scheduled to undergo surgery today.

Should Price land with another team, two internal possibilities for the Diamondbacks are Triple-A Tucson pitching coach Mike Parrott and roving pitching coordinator Dennis Lewallyn.
