October 19, 200520 yr ALBUQUERQUE -- Jurors have started hearing both sides in the murder trial of 20-year-old Jeffrey Galindo, the man accused of executing a 16-year-old boy at an Albuquerque park two years ago. Opening statements started Wednesday morning. Galindo sat attentive and looked concerned as the prosecution and defense gave very different descriptions of Galindo. The prosecution started with a detailed account of what happened at Albuquerque Alvarado Park in August 2003. Prosecutors say Jeffrey Galindo, Royce Chinana, and Joseph Archuleta forced 16-year old Chris Hanson and four of his friends to undress, and then robbed them. Hanson was shot in the head and killed when allegedly tried to protect his girlfriend. Prosecutors say Galindo was the ringleader of his friends and started the incident. They also say Galindo pulled the trigger and killed Hanson. Galindo's attorneys painted a different picture of Galindo, saying he was the peacemaker in the group and tried to prevent his friend, Royce Archuleta from shooting. Friends of Chris Hanson will testify Wednesday afternoon. Joseph Galindo's signed a plea agreement for second degree murder. As part of the plea, is to testify against Galindo. Royce Chinana, the third alleged accomplice, is also scheduled to go on trial for murder. http://www.krqe.com/expandedb.asp?RECORD_KEY[newsb]=ID&ID%5Bnewsb%5D=12482 Hanson was shot in the head and killed when allegedly tried to protect his girlfriend.
