Torrealba Traded To The Rockies

Recommended Posts

Though the web site seems to be down right now, it was reported at http://www.baseballthinkfactory.org/files/oracle/ that the Rockies acquired Yorvit Torrealba for future considerations.

Here is some more info:

Torrealba, 27, batted .234 with three home runs and 15 RBIs last season for San Francisco and Seattle, which acquired Torrealba and pitcher Jesse Foppert from the Giants in exchange for outfielder Randy Winn.

Torrealba had played with the Giants from 2001-05.

The catching move became necessary when the switch-hitting Closser struggled offensively and defensively in his first extended playing time. Closser's struggles opened the door for Danny Ardoin, who had spent most of his career in the Minors. Ardoin provided strong defense and batted .229 with occasional power, hitting six homers in 210 at-bats.

The Rockies contended that they were prepared to go with Ardoin and Ojeda unless they could upgrade. Torrealba, who has played behind such catchers as Benito Santiago and Mike Matheny, will get his first chance for front-line playing time with Colorado.
