Schulters to return?

Recommended Posts

DAVIE ? Safety Lance Schulters and the Miami Dolphins have expressed mutual interest in finding a way to re-sign the veteran for at least another season, Schulters' agent said Tuesday.

Such desires certainly aren't much of a surprise from the Dolphins' end, since the safety served as the most stabilizing force in the team's secondary for much of the season. Adding to the optimism, however, agent Brian Levy said Schulters also expressed those wishes.

The key issue remains how much money Schulters would need to come back.

Schulters becomes an unrestricted free agent after the Super Bowl ? around the same time veterans under one-year contracts can begin negotiations with their previous team.

That means the safety will have some time to test the market before the Dolphins have an offer laid out. And since the safety had a productive season, even though he was signed late during training camp, his stock has risen.

It could benefit the Dolphins to find a way to bring back Schulters, especially since much of the secondary likely is to be restructured in the off-season.

Schulters had a team-leading four interceptions, also adding two sacks, six pass deflections and 76 tackles. More critical might have been his leadership in a defense that requires complex communication by players in the secondary.
