"Conine was wrong, we paid too much, etc." In a tension-pressed 24 hours we came up with a versatile veteran capable of both corners, infield and outfield. And a player with fan and clubhouse integrity. Screw 2007, we need to make it now. This is not Fantasy Baseball. And Conine will contribute for the next couple of years. Not a Hall of Famer, but a solid baseball player and team player. An asset procured deftly by the FO under pressure. (footnote: With Cabrera needing a break, I wouldn't be surprised to see Conine at third and Banks in Left. And when Lee needs a break, Conine will be there competently.) Conine will not win the Pennant for us; he will give our starters a better chance to do it.
