Team Owner Buys Station For

Baseball Broadcasts

A partnership led by Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim owner Arte Moreno has purchased Spanish Talk KMXE/Los Angeles from Radiovisa in a deal announced over the weekend. While the terms were not disclosed, the Los Angeles Times sets the price tag at $42 million.

KMXE will become the Spanish-language broadcast home for Angels baseball starting with the 2006 season.

Moreno plans to change the station's format from all-Spanish programming to bilingual and expand its sports lineup.

Southern California Baseball Scorecard:

Angels: FSN West (min. 50 games-HD?), ESPN 710 (162 English games), KMXE (162 Spanish games)

Dodgers: FSN West 2 (min. 100 games-some HDTV), KCAL 9 (min. 50 games), KFWB (162 English games...between traffic every 10 minutes), KWKW (162 Spanish games)

Padres: Channel 4 Padres (Pads/Cox owned with most games on TV and in HD), Mighty 1090 (162 English games), XEMO (162 Spanish games)

Score: Dodgers > Padres > Angels

Moreno needs an over-the-air partner big time (something like 100 games on KTLA would be a dream) and the Angels should consider their own cable network in the future because they are fighting with FSN West. Oh, Moreno also needs another radio station because 710 ESPN's signal sucks.
